One of the strengths of a Victorian bedroom is its majestic appearance with the use of high quality materials. The elaborate styles of each item in the room contribute to the elegance. When choosing light fixtures, make sure you stick to Victorian materials like crystal, brass and porcelain. A huge chandelier is ideal hanging right over the bed. If you can find a candle-lit chandelier, the better.
Candlestick holders with an 8 to 12-candle capacity are good. Tall standing lamps are preferred over tabletop ones. It is important that you pick lampshades that have Victorian patterns like floral or elaborately painted scenes. A crocheted doily under each lamp is essential to stick to the theme. Yellow light is preferred over white when it comes to Victorian bedrooms.
A Victorian bed should have a powerful effect in the room. The bed may boast a lot of woodwork, brass work or ironwork. A king or queen-sized bed is ideal to fully express the elaborate details. You may choose to place posts on all corners to decorate it with canopies and drapes. The bed itself should have several pillows with elaborately designed pillow cases. Stick to floral or intricate scenic designs when it comes to bed sheets, blankets, comforters and trims. Victorian quilts are very effective in making your bed stand out in the room.
