The History of Crystal Chandeliers And Antique Chandeliers

The History of Crystal Chandeliers And Antique Chandeliers

Antique chandeliers, Wall sconces, and/or crystal chandeliers are unlike any other contemporary lighting fixture in that they accentuates the most demonstrative style and beauty over its sometimes non-existent  functionality. In the past, to have a chandelier was to form a statement, perhaps even a proclamation of personal wealth, social residence, status , and accomplishment. Today much of the social status associated with crystal chandeliers remains intact with the addition of the availability of antique reproduction chandeliers becoming more popular everyday. Also notable is the growing availability of the internet as a venue to display both the remarkably beautiful contemporary lighting, and the true antique chandeliers

Chandeliers are regarded as artistic ornaments due to their symmetrical yet complex designs, illuminating an entire room with refracted light. They are also the most archaic of all lighting fixtures, the earliest of which dating as far back as 1000 years or more.

In the medieval ages, candle chandeliers were generally the primary lighting in places of assembly, taking the manufacture of a wooden spoiled with candles placed on spikes spread around. This was then hoisted to a marvelous height on a rope or chain suspended from a hook.

From this initial origin more complex and artistic forms of the fixture began to enumerate wealthy homes in Europe, with many chandeliers being based on ring or crown designs for places of nobility and clergy. The chandelier was a symbol of luxury and place due to the high cost of night-time illumination, with many upper-class households having their glass chandeliers as the centerpiece of their dominion.
